Virginia Bickel's newest book Come September  has just been released. Order it now!

In Virginia Bickel?s second book, she turns from historical fiction to mystery. Come September is the story of Daniel Lindsey?s quest to identify the young woman found unconscious in front of his store, and to find out what she was doing on Mesa Street, in El Paso, Texas.  She brings to this genre her skill with character development and dialogue. You won't be disappointed.

Welcome to Fuchsia Land!

Hello! I'm pleased to meet you. Welcome to Fuchsialand! My name is Alfie Geeson and I live in the small town of Kirkby in Ashfield, which is located in the county of Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands of England. I decided to combine my two all-consuming hobbies, growing and exhibiting Fuchsias and Geraniums, and spending lots of time on my computer, by creating this website, Fuchsialand, dealing with the many facets of growing and exhibiting Fuchsias. I will, over these coming months, be creating further pages containing information on the many different methods of growing these lovely plants. Information regarding these additions will be published in Site News, please check it out whenever you visit the website. Would you also please take the time to View and Sign the Fuchsialand Guestbook.

Showing Fuchsias

I have shown Fuchsias for many years now and have had some small successes during that time. I erected my first greenhouse in around 1979 in the small garden I have with my flat in Kirkby in Ashfield. I was hooked on fuchsias and needed the greenhouse to grow and overwinter the plants. I can still remember the first time I was ever awarded a prize for one of my plants, I'd been showing for two or three years without getting a place in the first three when one wonderful day I went to the plant viewing, which takes place after the judges have completed their task, and discovered that I had won a third prize. I was so elated and excited. I've won many prizes since that day, but none have affected or excited me in the way that humble third place did.

Fuchsia Preferences

I've enjoyed growing Fuchsias as an amateur for longer than I care to remember and have always entered my plants in the local shows. My own preference is to grow standard Fuchsias. Why? Well, I think they are more of a challenge than growing a Fuchsia as a shrub or bush, and a well grown standard in an exhibition will always get those extra points needed to win first prize.

Fuchsia Mission

I created this site with the intention of sharing the pleasure I get from growing these wonderfully adaptable plants with all of you who find this site on the wide and wonderful web. I will also be logging my progress and taking lots of Fuchsia photographs during the next few years as I care for some Fuchsia cuttings taken during the year 2000, and grow them on throughout the coming months to hopefully win, or at least get placed in one of the Fuchsia classes at each of the following two shows. First, The Ashfield District Horticultural Show to be held on 9th and 10th of  August 2003, at Lawn Park, close to Sutton in Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, and secondly, The Moorgreen Country  Show which will be held on the 24th and 25th of August 2003 at Moorgreen Showground, near to the village of Moorgreen in Nottinghamshire. Please note that Fuchsia Shows here in the UK are competitive events, with prizes being awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  I hope you will accompany me on this mission to try and secure one of these awards at the 2003 showsWe have already had great success at the 2001 and 2002 shows.

Fuchsia Shows

I have included the latest schedules for the Fuchsia classes in the two shows. Full directions and maps to the showgrounds  are provided.
