Virginia Bickel's
newest book
Come September has just been released. Order it now!
In Virginia Bickel?s second book, she turns from
historical fiction to mystery. Come September is the
story of Daniel Lindsey?s quest to identify the young
woman found unconscious in front of his store, and to
find out what she was doing on Mesa Street, in El
Paso, Texas. She brings to this genre her skill with
character development and dialogue. You won't be
disappointed.

This photo was taken in the afternoon of 7th
June 2000. It contains all the cuttings that are being grown on in
bush form for next year. The surviving young plants have now
recovered from the damage caused by their accidental exposure to the sun's
rays when they were young and vulnerable. They should now make some good
plants for next years shows. Two cuttings of "Gordon Thorley"
that had been badly burned in the incident have died but, given the
seriousness of the damage, some losses were to be expected. The
large plants around the table are ones that I am growing on for this years
shows.
This photo was taken in the afternoon of 7th
June 2000. These are the plants that I selected to grow on to make
standards. They are doing really well and should have reached their full
height by the end of this first season. The tallest stems are now 12"
tall and the shortest are about 6". I am continuing to remove side
shoots as they develop in the leaf joints, this diverts all plant growth
into the main stem allowing it to reach the height we want to attain much
more quickly. The top two side shoots are left in case of accidents like a
broken growing tip.
This photo was taken in the afternoon of 16th
June 2000 and is an update on the plants that being grown in bush
form, they are now in 5in. pots and growing on well. I spray them with a
fine mist of tepid water every evening after the sun is off them and I
only water the pots when they are really dry, this makes the plant throw
out lots of roots to search for water, and the more roots you get on the
plant, the bigger the plant.
This photo was taken in the afternoon of 16th
June 2000 and is of the plants that I selected to grow on to make
standards. They are doing really well and have also been moved into 5in.
pots. They are being treated in the same way as the bush type plants, and
I spray them nightly and only water them when the roots are nearly dry.
